Ferocious Fucking Teeth - S/T

There are some go to bands when looking for something tranquil to fall asleep to. New London’s Ferocious Fucking Teeth is not one of them. Though they are tagged with terms like sludge and stoner metal, they operate without the hazy layers of reverb or infinite drone that the genre is associated with. Nothing is masked with counterfeit noise, leaving only amplified copper and the human voice to carry their trudging weight. Distortion is the primary discernible effect, and that’s just from shear loudness.  On Ferocious Fucking Teeth’s 2011 EP, Hounds, they concentrated mostly on the immediacy of bluesy doom. With their first self titled full length, FFT decelerate the raw ferocity of classic hardcore and meditate on the often ignored details, while maintaining the fierce charm of their earlier material.

Help José Oyola: 2nd Attempt!

José Oyola just relaunched a 2nd attempt to get his debut LP made, via kickstarter. Time to get out those wallets and make this happen!

The Old Edison - Story-Yelling

The Old Edison arrived at a time when folk and punk music had already held hands, gotten married, had five kids and renewed their vows in a sickening display of co-dependency. But as founding member Liam Boyle says, “the only reason this isn’t a punk band is because we didn’t have a drummer and we couldn’t afford amps. But we had acoustic guitars.” Acoustic instruments work to The Old Edison’s advantage and give warmth to songwriting that is already brutally honest. Their LP Story-Yelling is self proclaimed ‘hood folk’, from the avenues of South Boston. For non-New Englanders, this album is like an anthropological account of those neighborhoods. Low wages, good friends, and cheap alcohol have shaped the men and women in this band, and they’re coming to your state to tell you about it.

Kimono Draggin' - Kimono Gold

Kimono Draggin’ – Kimono Gold
New Haven trio Kimono Draggin’s Kimono Gold was the last release before the funky avant-garde group moved on to their current project, Space OrphansKimonoGold takes the indie-funk sound to a whole new level, creating an album so upbeat and in-your-face that you can’t help but want to move.  There is definitely a party music flair, but with musical integrity to back it up.  It hits hard and can get you pumped for anything.

Monogamy Party bring the (guitarless) noise.....

Seattle's Monogamy Party adhere to the maxim of being young, loud and snotty, as evidenced by not only their crazy live shows, but their debut EP "Pus City", which came out on Good To Die records last year. Taking inspiration from other noisy, bass-led combos such as Big Business and godheadsilo, the three dudes (Kennedy, Yos-Wa and Keith) are committed to making an in your-face racket that doesn't skimp on attitude or dementia.

With the band embarking on an inaugural cross country tour that stops at the Cherry Street Station in Wallingford on August 27, we decided to send bassist Yos-Wa some questions concerning the band. Full disclosure, I have interviewed this band before for another web site and I'm fully aware of how good they are. So, if you are interested, definitely come down and check out this show. You certainly won't be disappointed.

Enjoy!

The Files & Fires need your support to record, and master their new record!

I hope you're feeling charitable because The Files & Fires need your help! They have a kickstarter set up to assist them in recording and mastering their new album, which would be set for winter of this year!

Chalk Talk - Bad Influences EP

Chalk Talk are at present an Amherst, MA indie rock band but I am giving them a pass and reviewing their EP because it's awesome, it was recorded in Glastonbury, CT., and 2 of the 3 members of the band are from CT. Not to mention they just played a release show in Woodbury, CT with the likes of The Guru and High Pop. Regardless this EP is packed with garage pop/rock goodness!

Hip Hip Hooray for High Pop!

High Pop have returned with a full length LP of fuzzy pop goodness! It almost came out of nowhere! In early summer High Pop submitted the track "I Like The Smell" to the CTIndie.com Summer Mix Tape: D60, and since it wasn't from a prior release, we suspected it might be from an upcoming release. Well, our suspicion was answered with: "Hip Hip Hooray"

8/6 - Arc Agency Presents Punch, Living Eyes, Oathbreaker, Cold Snap and More!

In the past year or so, there has been a whole slew of great shows at the Point Beach Clubhouse in Milford, and The Arc Agency continues the trend with this gig coming up on Monday. The last time Punch played in CT was at the Whitney House well over a year ago with Loma Prieta and Vaccine. This time they're back on tour with Living Eyes (which coincidentally features members of Punch and Loma). Oathbreaker, the gnarly Belgian band currently signed to Deathwish, recently hopped on the bill. They are currently traveling down to Philadelphia to play This is Hardcore next weekend.

To round out the bill we have three diverse and interesting locals representing a decent spread of what CT punk has to offer. Hunger Strike opens the show, playing a bizarre and frantic brand of screamo (with horns!). Loach have been playing out constantly for the past couple of months and they bring a blistering hardcore punk energy to the bill. And then there's CT veterans, Cold Snap, responsible for some of the strangest and most original hardcore jams to come out of the state. They also have the distinction of being the slowest (and most dapper) band on the bill.

Doors are at 6 pm. $10 admission. It takes place at the Point Beach Clubhouse at 204 Melba St in Milford.

Schemawound - Hospital Songs

With the ever-increasing number of bedroom electronic music producers prodding their way through local scenes and beyond, the question inevitably becomes, what must one do to rise above the cult of mediocrity?  With his latest release entitled HospitalSongs, Naugatuck producer Jon Siemasko, known as Schemawound, has proven that the answer lies in constant experimentation.
