The Fishermen Three, from Brooklyn, spent much of 2009 touring in Europe to support their debut album, Rosina on Every Balcony, released on Hype City, a Norwegian label. Most recently, they were on tour with the Jeff Lewis Band in the UK. This is a rare chance to see them in the US.

From San Jose, California, The Mumlers are a young and exciting band with one of the best horn sections around. Towering frontman Will Sprott will win you over with that voice of his immediately. See this month's New Yorker for a description of their NYC show.

Also playing are local acts The Proud Flesh and Ryan Stottle.

You don't have to trek down to the city to catch the best of CMJ. Just a few days after rocking the music marathon, Brooklyn three-piece Grooms will take the stage at Larry's. Their new album, Rejoicer, drops this month and they're itching to play live.

Songs like "Dreamsucker" and "Acid King of Hell" start off easy but build with frenetic speed. With New Order-esque guitars breaking down into furious fuzz, their slightly off-key vocals always hit their mark. Thank goodness Death by Audio had the good sense to sign them. Catch them on November 5 for a taste of what's to come.

Deer Tick, Dawes & The Backwater Racket

Deer Tick is a rockin band from Providence, RI. From humble beginnings in 2004 as a drum and guitar duo, the band has progressed to a quartet. With the release of their albums War Elephant and Born on Flag Day, they've won a lot of praise for their mean blend of roots rock. Lead singer John McCauley lends his unique vocals to heartfelt songs to give these guys their great sound. I'm sure you'll be hearing a lot more about these guys soon.

Dawes is an Americana quartet from California. They play some really awesome tunes, remeniscient of The Band, My Morning Jacket and the like. They even recently played a Daytrotter session which you can find right here. Their album North Hills is worth checking out.

The Backwater Racket hail from Fairfield, CT, they describe themselves as "Porch Music." It's a very fitting description, as they play a lot of folk and bluegrass themed songs. They've got a new album coming out soon, and from what you can hear on their myspace page, it seems like it's going to be pretty damn good.

Widely considered one of the best rappers of our age , Wu-tang's Reakwon da Chef will be at Toad's Place on Sunday Nov. 8th promoting his new CD "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx.. pt2". If you're like me and have been waiting for this CD to drop for years then this show is a no-brainer. Don't know who he is? Buy his first CD (Only Built for Cuban Linx aka The Purple Tape) and get his new one and hear the sounds of quality hip hop. Indie Showcase @ The Tavern Downtown

It looks like Hartford is back on the upswing this month - Jesse Tobias will be featuring an evening of live indie music every Tuesday night in November at The Tavern Downtown in Hartford! The tavern has recently been renovated and has new owners, and is getting tons of great reviews for it's food, too - so you may want to make a whole night of it.

It all kicks off this Tuesday, Nov. 3rd. It will feature:

The Cool Kids @ Toad's Place - Nov. 14th

If you live within a 200 mile radius of any college radio station you should know who The Cool Kids are. You may not know them by name but when you hear them you should recognize them. Their music has been in games, commercials, sporting events,snowboard videos and anything else that can have a catchy song attached to it. Join them on the 14th and be one of the cool kids there.

Teaessare Can Read

"Teaessare Can Read" is an art exhibit by TS Rogers, a fantastic illustrator. His work includes tons of local show posters, and he has been big in the indie music community for a long time. Chances are you've seen his work at places like Redscroll Records or in the New Haven Advocate. The exhibit opens Nov 20th and runs through January 31st, 2010 at Channel 1 in New Haven.
