Farewood: Wings of Gold
In the youtube generation, so many “artists” put little thought into their output. It's comforting that there are bands like Farewood, who not only lay down beautiful musical tracks, but do so in order to bring readers to a richly developed fictional world of struggles and progress through human, or human-like interactions. In these songs of love and pain, a listener meets speakers they can identify with on a human level, as well as a witch, a ghost, and an angel.

Don Preston: A Grandfather of Invention
A few weeks ago I got the pleasure of finishing up an interview with Don Preston over the phone, in between the American and European legs of the Grandmothers of Invention's current tour. My first interview, in person at their Infinity Hall show, had crashed and burned due to technical difficulties with a digital recorder, ironically enough considering that Don's career has always been strongly centered in the technology of the times. What follows is a rundown of the personal history he recounted to me, as well as some individual snapshots of his crazy stories and specific experiences in the past 40 some-odd years.

Ohsaurus 3 Pounds of Flax
3 Pounds of Flax is the newest free digital download from Ohsaurus. Blippity beeppity beats that HPSU might want to take notice of. Some of what's going on with this release flirts with the dubstep thing, but it's too frivolous for that kind of dark ambience. Maybe overly busy at times, but never annoying. I find Ohsaurus is great to listen to when baking cookies. Also check out The Energy About Us and Housing District on the Ohsaurus bandcamp.
