Spotlight On: The Stomping Ground in Putnam CT

Northeastern CT has been known as quiet, perhaps even uneventful. Well, no longer! The Stomping Ground has opened it's doors to the public and plans of having an eclectic mix of events and music to keep everyone enthralled!

The Stomping Ground is a bar/venue that is brand spanking new and ready to start having some shows! I had the opportunity to ask owners Terry and Sarah some questions about their new place and the things they love:
Why is the place called "The Stomping Ground"?
"The Stomping Ground" was part of Sarah's brainstorming. She felt that the name fully embraces the feeling of a favorite familiar place, a spot where you can have a good time with friends and kindred alike and just be yourself.

Do you have a mission statement?
Our mission is to encourage, as well as develop, a communal appreciation for the visual and performance arts by providing an affordable and eclectic bohemian location for the benefit of Connecticut’s Quiet Corner citizens as well as the general public. Our goal is to provide a fun, relaxed and welcoming environment where artists can connect with each other and with those who appreciate their work.

Name drop some locals you love.
Glimpse of Gaia, Wonderland Books, Silver Circle Gallery, Tyrone Farm, Flying Carpet Studio, Sawmill Pottery, and Turtles Tacos.

Do you do food? Any specialties at the bar?
Yes, we definitely have grub. Our chef has helped us put together a very appetizing menu with, amongst other tasty treats, a gourmet grilled cheese selection. At the bar, we will have 10 taps that feature American craft and micro-brews on draft. Additionally, there's a fine wine selection and a full variety of liquors.

The food is fantastic. I've had the Sinatra, the T&S and the MCA. All were awesome and so was the Sea Hag IPA I washed it down with.

Sounds comfy and fun--just like a favorite old couch of mine--but with live music and someone else to do the cooking! I'll be there Friday 6/15/12 for Ricky King Russell and Rick Harrington, and Saturday 6/16/12 for Rick Harrington, Chris Stovall Brown, and Mike LaBelle!!! Whoo hoo!!!
