Broken Water, Estrogen Highs and Empty Flowers @ BAR on 5/22

New Haven's favorite Estrogen Highs are playing at BAR on Wednesday with Broken Water and Empty Flowers!

From The Facebook Event:

BROKEN WATER is a three piece band from Olympia, WA formed in August 2008 and heavily influenced by the local music scene there from the 1990's to present. Two members of Olympia’s SISTERS (Parts Unknown Records) and one member of Congratulations make up this band. In August of 2009 they self released a two track 7 inch with DIY letterpress packaging and a 6 song demo CD. In March 2010 the full length "Whet" was released on vinyl by Night People, and on CD by Radio is Down. Demo songs were put out on cassette tape shortly after by Night People. A 7" 45rpm record was recently released (August 2010) on Fan Death records. Expect future singles and full lengths in the months to come.

Estrogen Highs was started in 2007 as a solo side project for frontman Stefan Christensen. A 5 song CD-R was released and was soon followed by those five songs being remixed, mastered, and put onto 2 7"s ('E Major D Construction' and 'She Don't Bother EP'). With some attention being garnished from the release of the 7"s a full band was formed with the addition of Wes Nelson on bass, Mark Scialabia on guitar, and Chip Crane on drums. This lineup would go on to record another 7" and the bands first full length "Tell It to Them" (Dead Beat Records). "Tell It to Them" saw the band moving away from its original garage influences and into new territory. After some shifts in lineup the band eventually settled back in with Ross Menze on drums and saw the release of their critically acclaimed second full length album "Friends & Relatives" and highly diverse "Cycles EP." These releases displayed a band indebted to post-punk, kiwi pop, and experimental music, while at the same time forging their own individual sound. The band stayed active with national tours and the release of their third full length, "Irrelevant Future," via Trouble in Mind Records.

Empty Flowers is a band that resides at various places along the east coast and was started in late 2010. The band consists of members from Connecticut's long running noise rockers Cable and Philadelphia's eclectic indie pop duo Exvotos. In September of 2012 they released their debut, Six on Translation Loss Records along with a 7 inch armed with a b-side remix by Jeff Caxide (ISIS, Palms) through Atomic Action! Records. Along the way they have been compared to the likes of Lungfish, Slint and Unwound. A follow up to their debut is planned for the fall of this year via Atomic Action!/The Path Less Traveled Records.
