Mercy Choir - “His Noiseless Ball, His Boxwood Rattle" Review

2013 has been a busy year for Paul Belbusti who heads the Mercy Choir. A Connecticut Music Award nomination for "Best Other," a slew of splits and the birth of a son are some of his accomplishments this year. One would say he has his hands full. However, amidst a full year of rock and roll and learning to be a father, Mercy Choir has had the time to release a full length album which may be the final of 2013. (Although knowing Paul, he may release something before the month is over).

Buck McGrane - Fire On Main Street (Single)

Buck McGrane is back with a new single from his forthcoming album "A Prima Vista", which should be ready in the spring.

Meet The Little Richards

It’s not every day that we folk here at CTindie write about an out of State band. But when we do it must be special. Sure there are amazing bands outside of our 5,543 square miles, but there are also some phenomenal ones inside the Nutmeg State. However today lets us introduce you to The LittleRichards who hail from Salem, MA.

VIOLENT MAE

This past spring a band called Violent Mae sent us a track to premier called "Hole In My Heart". It was and still is a stellar track that covers so many bases musically and stylistically that it's kind of intimidating. Sometimes a band will come out with a song and tease that they could be the best band you have ever heard. Sometimes a band will make that level of promise to you. Only through hard work, determination, a discerning ear and a little luck could a band like Violent Mae make an album that lives up to the potential promised in their first single "Hole In My Heart". Luckily all of those things have clearly come to pass.

This review was submitted by guest reviewer: Pedro Hobbs!

Songs of Mirth and Sorrow, the latest offering from the New Haven-based Dr. Caterwaul's Cadre of Clairvoyant Claptraps, is a satisfying blend of traditional folk from such places as Bulgaria and Serbia, along with their own modern take on the genre.

Empty Flowers: An Interview With Lead Vocalist Christian McKenna

Empty Flowers play the type of indie rock that doesn't get made much these days. It's loud, passionate, and rough around the edges, yet still tuneful and catchy. On their sophomore record "Five", which came out earlier this via The Path Less Traveled and Atomic Action, you can hear a band coming into their own, refining their craft and becoming a cohesive unit.

While they hail from several locations, one of those locations is CT. I had the chance to do an email interview with the band and review their debut EP "Bent Nail". Check it out below!

David Scott - "Dark Blue Grass"

The following review was done by Guest Reviewer Max Mercy:

After David Scott’s only son was killed eight years ago, he turned what was once a pastime into the primary way of dealing with his grief. Dark Blue Grass is a collection of songs that emerged over that eight-year period and, as one might expect, they are filled with themes of heartbreak, nostalgia, and vengeance (to name a few). However, like good blues musicians, Scott has the ability to step outside of his emotions and display a control that’s both masterful and captivating. The result is a beautifully crafted record laced with rich poetry, blue-blooded soul and immaculate instrumentation.

Hubbell Mountain - Stereoscope

Visceral and exciting, Hubbell Mountain’s new album, illustrated by the well-known LA artist Brendon Monroe (good freaking grab, guys, I love his work), grabs us by the chest and digs its roots deep inside us. With hi-fi precision and ingenious production quality, this [virus] collection next fuses with our arteries and starts to pump its serious mind-numbing juices into our bloodstream, and finally, after trying to rip our own hearts out, to no avail I assure you, it drowns us in its own frothy, pneumonic harmony; lulling us to our final sleep in a bath of melancholic and deeply personal dreams.

SPACETRON: A New Concertgoing Experience @ SPACELAND BALLROOM 8/24

José Oyola is a creature of the stage, there is no doubt about it! His love of live performance and theatrics has caused him to concoct SPACETRON, an event that is more than just another concert. It will basically be a giant carnival party with crazy lights, smoke machine, face painting, kaleidoscope making, photobooth, LED hula hoop performance, and just an all around amazing time.

Tomb And Thirst - Great Leveler & Precipice (live at Elm Bar)

Dance, Charlatan! - Held at Bay Track Review

Sweet melodic indie pop fills the width of "Held at Bay", a new track from Dance, Charlatan! "Marked is a man, and his principles too, when the problem at hand is a drunk love for you" are the first words of the sweet love song, which shifts between easy-going to fill force rock. This is a promising track from a band with only one other track available on their bandcamp.
Our ears are open, Dance, Charlatan! Now give us more tunes!

Matt Gouette "Sunnyside" Review

A “pure pop rock genius” is the only way to describe New London rocker Matt Gouette. It seems like everything he touches turns to gold.
