dave GO and the Guy from Beastmaster - Bed-Sitter Girl

Dave Go and the Guy from Beastmaster aren't slowing down any time soon, and neither should you. Producing music at a steady pace, this outfit culls from a massive archive of tape samples and produced music and act as an audio collage artist. Splicing and rearranging pieces into new/weird/wonderful work is something that comes easy to Dave Go and the Guy, and the results are amazing.

Last year's CTIndie.com Summer Mix Tape D60 was so successful, we put the link in the top right corner of our page and there it has remained into the new year, still acquiring hits steadily. So we are gonna do it again, this year. Send us your music to ctindiemusic@gmail.com or just drop box it to us using the link on the right side of the screen.

Submission Guidelines:

You may submit as many tracks as you like. We will select our favorite and put them on the tape. We may choose one or two songs depending on a multitude of factors (total running time of tape, how much we really like the songs, etc...). There are NO genre restrictions, and I would like to add that we generally prefer stuff that's harder to categorize.

THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS JUNE 1ST! So get us your tracks by then.

These sequences will then be constructed for release in the first week of June on our SUMMER MIX TAPE SOUNDCLOUD (yes, the old tapes will be taken down). Also, like last year, we here at CTIndie.com will make (at our own personal expense) CD's and/or Tapes to be passed out at shows all summer for FREE. I know last year we proliferated 100 sets of the double CD and nearly 50 double tape sets. We encourage, nay, IMPLORE all of you featured on the tape or not, to make and distribute as many copies of these mixes as possible. Get the word out about your favorite bands. Tell everyone how impressively abundant CT music really is!
And get yourself psyched up for a long awesome summer of dope ass shows.

To remind you all of how awesome last year's double tape was, here they are (for now!)

High Pop - Hippie Speed Ball

High pop, indeed! High Pop are a band who channel punk, brit invasion, freak folk and a whole mess of other genres for their EP "Hippie Speed Ball". This band's recordings manage to find intricacy in their quality and mix despite being Lo-Fi. Generally speaking, I love Lo-Fi and there is no exception here! I was most impressed by how this band manages to work their medium for what it's worth. They clearly know what their equipment is capable of and play to the strengths of it. These guys have a real Ty Segal thing going on with their vocals occasionally blowing out all other instrumentation on their recordings. The results are, frankly, exciting!

The songs themselves are lean, which is great for me! I have a pretty bad case of musical ADHD which makes this band particularly favorable in my brain with song lengths averaging on 2 mins.
Opener "The Shakes" belongs right where it is, as the first impression you get of this EP. The chorus is anthemic, despite having more complexity than a song of anthem caliber. I love the Ramones style "The Charm". EP closer "Crafts" is an awesome shoegaze song that gives us a little medium reminder at the finale, with a "tape malfunction" that slows to a grinding halt.
Nice dismount, High Pop!

Do yourselves a favor, head to High Pop's Bandcamp site and get "Hippie Speed Ball" now.

Ghost in your Basement - Basements EP

Nostalgia: An old photograph of someone passed. Old toys of somebody grown up. A disassembled-bed in the attic. Ghost in your Basement? This four-piece, Torrington, Conn. band wields an interestingly nostalgic (yet hopeful) tone; a singular sound from people so young. But they handle it well on their recent EP “Basements.” Composed of a standard indie-rock setup, two guitars, bass, and drums, Ghost in your Basement envelops us with the sounds of yesteryear.

In 2011, most indie rock groups go for a meagerly composed and emotionally aloof tone. Ghost in your Basement is pretty much the opposite of this. They are sincere; you can tell that they put a lot of time in to their recording. In my notes, I wrote that this EP reminds me of Mogwai and Modest Mouse. But after thinking about it for a while, a better comparison would be the band Bedhead. Lush instrumental parts with vocals sparsely interwoven yields the bands beautiful soundscape. Many of the songs are slow, arpeggiated, and sad. The EP’s Lo-Fi-tone, with noises creepily reverberating in the background, creates an unsettling feeling. But just as it gets a bit too much to handle, the group changes tempos, and direction, leading into a classically driving indie-rock song. These kids certainly have a knack for writing music. While this might not be for all, it is refreshing to hear sincere indie rock. It is certainly worth a listen.

Basements EP for sale on BandCamp (Band is also selling it on Cassette at shows):

Hair Police: Working with traditional rock instrumentation as well as electronics, tape manipulation, and oscillators, Hair Police builds demonic walls of sound for a result reminiscent of Throbbing Gristle, early Black Dice, and Wolf Eyes. Hair Police formed in Lexington, KY, in January of 2001. The original lineup included Matt Minter and Ross Compton, but the group soon settled on Mike Connelly (guitar, vocals, tapes, noise), Robert Beatty (electronics), and Trevor Tremaine (drums, vocals, tapes). Soon after forming, the group released its 2001 debut, History of Ghost Dad on Gods of Tundra. Blow Out Your Blood followed on Freedomfrom in 2002, and 2003 found Hair Police in an extremely productive mode that produced Movies: Live '01-'02 (a cassette on Animal Disguise), the Mortuary Servants 7", a self-titled cassette on Hospital Productions, Probe Cutting (a cassette on Gods of Tundra), and splits with Cadaver in Drag and Viki -- the latter of which secured the band its widest distribution. In 2004 Hair Police released a new album, Obedience Cuts, as well as a split with Crystal Fantasy. The following year saw two new albums --Constantly Terrified and Drawn Dead--as well as a reissue of their self-titled album for Hospital Productions on CD. (allmusic.com) No Fun Productions will be releasing "Certainty of Swarms." Copies will be available at the show.

Sickness started in the early days of 1986-1987 as a tape-loop/ industrial project. Now, so many years later, it has grown into the infestation you see before you. To further the destruction, Sickness formed its own label, Ninth Circle Music, and it has been around for over six years, releasing special limited edition tape only releases.
