Paul Caporino Interview

As posted earlier Paul Caporino of M.O.T.O will be playing at Willimantic Records on Mother´s Day May 13th. He will be accompanied by CT´s own Estrogen Highs.

Q:  Hi Paul, how's the tour going?

Paul:  Hi Ingimar, Tour's holding steady so far. Could be better, but so far OK.

Q:  It seems like you´are constantly on the road, how long has it been since you´ve had a decent break between outings?

Paul:  I'd had about a month off at my sister's in New Orleans. Glad to be back out.

Q:  Why Willimantic? Is it the frog statues?

Paul:  I've never seen frog statues. I'd played there a lot in the late 80s, mostly at The Populous Pudding (R.I.P.). Tulpa Records in Wilimantic had released my first 7" records. And Joe Malinowski of Tulpa now runs Willimantic Records where I'll be playing.

Q:  Any new material surfacing?

Paul:  I'm working on songs all the time. The albums St. John The Bastard (late 90s) and The Things We Said And The Things We Did (odds & sods from singles and home recordings, some dating back to the 80s) are now available on CDBaby, iTunes and all the other major download sites.

Q:  What got you started?

Paul:  Playing music? Probably seeing The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show when I was 3 years old. One of my earliest memories. That got the ball rolling.

Q:  How long have you been doing this and what keeps you going on?

Paul:  I've been doing this a very long time, only more now than ever. The thing that keeps me going is that I don't want to do anything else.

Q:  Your records are hard to find. Where can people so inclined find your music?

Paul:  They are always available on CDBaby, iTunes and all the other major download sites. Rerun Records in St. Louis USA will soon be reissuing the LPs BOLT (1986) and E PLURIBUS MOTO (1993), as well as low-priced CDs of a lot of my back catalog. http://home2.rerunrecordsstl.com/M.O.T.html In Europe, Blast Of Silence Records (Finland) will be releasing the new LPs NO SLEEP 'TIL TURKU (recorded in Finland 2012) and PACK YOUR TROUBLES IN DREAMS (recorded in Australia in 2011) soon. Blast Of Silence have recently released LPs of NO WAY STREET (2006-08) and the re-issue of KILL MOTO (2003). They are available through Svart Records' site.

Q:  One last question: I spied recently that you have done an advice column. I have dilemma. I was driving with the family, my wife, a 16 year old and a three year old, when your song “I Like Fucking” comes on. The 16 year old says “Turn this off, I don´t think this is something a three year old should be listening to."

Paul:  I agree with the 16-year-old in a way. I don't think it's good to say strong language in front of a child that young. It's best to pick it up on the street. That way you can truly appreciate the value of vulgarity.

So there you go. Go to Willimantic this coming Sunday after noon and see the show. it will start at 4.00pm and run until 7.00pm.
