Lee Ranaldo Band and 200 Years LIVE @ Hygienic Art on 7/31

New London has a great show coming up on Tuesday 7/31 as Sonic Youth's own Lee Ranaldo steps out with his solo band. The opening act is Drag City's 200 Years.

From the press release:

Hygienic Art is excited to bring seminal guitarist and member of the influential rock outfit Sonic Youth to the Hygienic Art Park for a performance on Tuesday, July 31. Ranaldo recently released 'Between the Times and the Tides', his first full album of solo tunes, on Matador Records.  The record hints at the experimental and noisy edge of his former group's work while exploring more melodic terrain in the vain of Wilco and mid-era R.E.M. Drag City recording artists 200 Years will open the show.

Founding member of Sonic Youth, now in 30th year; composer/visual artist/writer etc. Recent live performances with partner Leah Singer, Contre Jour, have been large scale, multi projection quadraphonic sound+light events, w Lee performing suspended electric guitar phenomena.
The big news at the moment is that in March 2012 Lee released a solo song LP ‘Between the Times & the Tides’ [Matador], This is his first fully self-penned, song-based album. The album shows off both Lee’s electric and acoustic sides, and had contributions by Steve Shelley, Nels Cline, John Medeski, Alan Licht, Jim O’Rourke and Bob Bert. A full band tour is picking up steam across the USA and in Europe, and will continue until the autumn. Touring band members include Steve Shelley, Alan Licht and Irwin Menken.

Lee’s visual and sound works have been on view this year in gallery and museum shows in Vienna, Prague, Antwerp,Tampa, Bratislava, Auckland, Salt Lake City and in Brooklyn and Manhattan NYC.

Recent solo recordings include Glacial (LR/Tony Buck/David Watson) [Three Lobed, 2012]; Les Anges Du Peche: Thurston Moore/Jean-Marc Montera/Lee Ranaldo: guitar duets [Dysmusie, 2011]; and Afternoon Saints: The Shirley Jangle (with Christian Marclay, Gunter Muller, David Watson) [Kraak, 2009].

His latest collections of writings, How Not To Get Played On The Radio [SoundBarn Press 2011] and Against Refusing [Waterrow Press, 2010], enlist internet spam as a springboard for poetry.
